3D and Surround-Sound Services
3D sound technology is the future of audio production for many applications. From computer game sound design to portable DVD players, from futuristic music production to audio drama, from virtual reality implementation to virtual conferencing applications and mobile phone implementation, 3D sound represents a massive leap forward in total-emersion soundscaping.
We specialise in prerendered 3D audio music and scenes, but we do not currently mix down to 5.1 actual surround-sound at this time, as we feel that the effectiveness of such a sound system is too co-dependant on factors beyond the sound designer’s control to make it a worthwhile proposition.
However, we are big advocates of virtual surround-sound implementation for music score and SFX development, as this can be presented very successfully through ordinary stereo headphones, making the solution portable, inexpensive, easy to use and easy to implement.
“Virtual Surround-sound”, (3D audio delivered via ordinary headphones or cross-talk cancellation and phase-ratio based speaker systems), offers a much more flexible option than “Actual Surround-sound”, (3D audio delivered via specially encoded digital signals to multiple speakers around the listening environment).
Why do we believe this?
- Virtual 3D audio is portable
- Virtual 3D audio is no more expensive than conventional stereo for the end-user
- Virtual 3D audio does not require any special hardware or software for playback, good headphones and an audio player are all that is needed
- Virtual 3D audio offers the production team greater control over what the end-user hears and when they hear it
- Virtual 3D audio is much less expensive to produce
