Hi folks, just posting to say that I’ve now completed the overture for Claire Goodwin theatre Arts School based in Winchester for their production of Cinderella scheduled for February 2010.
They’re setting the story in New York and it has a very up-beat storyline so that’s what I’ve gone for with this arrangement/composition.
Taking songs that will appear in the show, I’ve put together a snappy, fast-pase opening for the production, quite a bit shorter than stuff I’ve written for them in the past.
Hi everyone, sorry its been such a long time since I last posted, but its been a very busy and emotional few months.
I wanted to get my brother Ben and his wife Lisa something completely unique as their wedding present, but I just couldn’t think of anything that someone else wouldn’t have chosen before. In the end I decided to write them a song.
I let them hear it a couple of days before the wedding and was totally thrilled when they chose it as their first dance instead of Eva Casady’s Songbird.
I’ve posted a sample of the track below, and as soon as I get a copy of the wedding DVD I’ll upload some footage of the first dance too.
Here’s another sample of an overture I was commissioned to write back in 2006. This time its the opening to the Wizard Of Oz panto, another Claire Goodwin Theatre Arts School production which ran at the Theatre Royal in Winchester in 2007. Enjoy…
Well guys, its official, I’ve been commissioned to write the overture for Cinderella on Broadway, a new panto going up in the first quarter of 2010! Its gonna be set in the 50s so that’s a new chalange for me, but hey, I like chalanges! I’m thinking Guys And Dolls, that kinda jazzy Big Band sound! Yea!
Oh for all you Americans out there, panto, short for pantomime, is a great British tradition. I’m not going to give it to ya on a plate though, go and look it up if you don’t know what its all about! See, this is a very interactive, mind-expanding blog!
Earlier this year the Theatre Arts school I used to teach at put on their production of Alice In Wonderland in Winchester. Although I’m no longer working for the school as a teacher, I still write and arrange music for them on occasion, and here’s a sample of the overture I wrote for the show. Enjoy…
A while back I was asked to compose an Electronica/Ambient score for use in a documentary about some new gismo or other. Here’s a section of the score for you to listen to. Enjoy…
When my production company Leo Media got off the ground a couple of years ago, almost the first contract we landed was a sound design and musical content development contract for Gamelab London and BBC Jam. Because there’s still a Non-Disclosure Agreement (or NDA) in place, I can’t really go in to detail, but I can tell you that the project involved groundbreaking sound technologies never before used in the way we implemented them. Various buzzwords and phrases spring to mind at this point however, like… 3D, surroundsound, virtual audio reality etc etc. Well, nuff said I reckon, I’m sure you bright inteligent peeps out there can make some interesting speculations from that.
Anyway, here’s a sample of one of the pieces of music I composed for the project. It works best if you listen on headphones, and note the movement of the sounds around you. Enjoy…
So, what’s happening now and where am I going next? Well, I’ve just completed the Out Of The Blue Remix which has now been released in the US so that’s all very exciting. Leo Media continues to produce custom backing tracks for dance schools, theatre companies and singers, and we’re also nagociating new contracts with various multi-media companies as well, specifically projects involving sound design and music for computer games.
For me personally though, I’m about to embark on two pretty huge projects which are very exciting. Firstly, I’m very excited to anounce that I have started work on my first Musical! I have had discussions with Lesley Pearse, the author of the novel which is the inspiration for the new work, and she is more than happy for me to go ahead with the project. Its always nice to have the blessing of the author. That’s all I can say about that for now, other than the novel is perfect for stage adaptation, and this wonderful story has something for everyone - love interest, danger, passion, great music!
The second project is something a bit different. I will shortly be starting work on an audio dramatisation of a series of Scifi novels. The first one will be a pilot, but if it meets with approval Leo Media should be up for doing all of the books in the series.
I’ve also got to get my ass in gear and write the song I’ve promised my Brother and future sister in law for their Wedding in August, as well as my Best Man speech! Eeeek! I’d better get watching Best Man speeches on Youtube!
Here’s another audio sample of me singing, this time Get Some Print from the new Musical No Horizon. This wasn’t actually one of my songs when I played Saunderson in the show, but about a year after the run finished I was asked to go down to a studio in London and lay down a vocal for a demo. This is a sample of that recording. Enjoy…
